[**Julia Canady King**](https://bgrdc.com/team/julia-canady-king/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com), daughter of Florida Supreme Court Justice **Charles Canady** and state Rep. **Jennifer Canady**, has joined Washington, D.C.-based lobbying and public relations firm [**BGR Group**](https://bgrdc.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) as a Director for Washington and Florida. King, pictured above, [**previously served**](https://bgrdc.com/julia-canady-king-joins-bgr-group/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) as Federal Affairs Coordinator for Gov. **Ron** **DeSantis’** Office of Federal Relations & Intergovernmental Affairs, where she advised on federal policy issues, developed legislative initiatives and facilitated hurricane response and recovery. Prior to her work in DeSantis’ administration, King served as Government Affairs Manager for the Outdoor Hospitality Industry, where she also bridged state and federal government. There, she worked with state associations developing and furthering legislative priorities, coordinating federal outreach strategies and leading grassroots campaigns, including on seasonal labor and tax policy.

**Colburn Aker, founder of** [**The Aker Partners**](https://tapintopr.wordpress.com/the-aker-partners-team/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) **(TAP), a public relations and marketing firm, has died.**  Aker provided counsel to political and business leaders since graduating with a Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University in 1968\. After serving as a Captain and Judge Advocate in the Air Force, he began a private law practice before joining a presidential campaign. In 1977, he became the first full-time lobbyist for corporate clients of Hill and Knowlton. He founded TAP in 1983 and represented more than 500 clients including Ford Motor Company, Mazda and the U.S Mint before the agency closed. In addition, he served as a president of the Public Relations Global Network, a network of leading independent agencies. TAG closed in 2011.
