**Award-winning photographer** [**Cade Martin**](https://www.cademartin.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) **collaborated with** [**The Sherry Matthews Group**](https://www.sherrymatthews.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) **and** [**Street Smart**](https://www.mwcog.org/newsroom/2024/10/29/officials-unveil-new-slow-down-life-ahead-safety-campaign--traffic-safety-street-smart/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) on the “Slow Down, Life Ahead” campaign. According to Martin, “each image celebrates the essence of pausing and prioritizing safety in our shared spaces, from crosswalks to turning lanes. Whether it’s a newlywed couple or a playful reminder for drivers to look for cyclists, the campaign encapsulates how mindfulness can save lives. It was an absolute joy to contribute to a cause that seamlessly blends creativity with impactful public messaging in the heart of the D.C. area.”

The campaign focuses on people walking and biking in the Washington region and crossing paths with cars, trucks, buses, and other vehicles. According to Martin, “since 2002, the Street Smart program has worked to raise awareness about pedestrian and bicycle safety and highlight enforcement of the laws that protect people walking and biking.”

Street Smart is a pedestrian and bicyclist safety program created by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) in 2002\. The campaign works in conjunction with ongoing efforts across the region to better enforce traffic safety laws and upgrade infrastructure with lifesaving safety features. The campaign also educates drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists with traffic safety tips on transit ads, in media outreach, via digital engagement and with on-the-ground outreach.
