Staging Events for Public Relations Campaigns

Many memorable, news-making and relationship-building events are staged in the nation’s capital and across the country every day, advancing brands and causes, raising money and generating placements. Well-conceived and executed events are often a critical tactic for successful public relations campaigns. From consumer-facing activities to issue-oriented advocacy programs, meaningful events must be tied to an overall campaign or mission that includes goals, objectives, strategies, additional tactics and a good understanding of target audience(s) and timing.

With a carefully conceived campaign plan in hand, you can determine the best date and location for your event, whether it’s at your office, at a large venue, on Facebook Live or somewhere else—as long as the date doesn’t conflict with something else that might divide your audience’s attention.

The range of communications tools needed to support events is vast—logistics planning, media relations, social media, speaker outreach, talking points development, digital support, materials development and more. Planning successful events requires a deep understanding of how all these pieces fit together and best resonate with your audience.

During this workshop, you’ll learn some of the basic how-to elements about planning, execution and amplifying the messages of a range of events and experiential activities. This program will cover:

Exploring events and goal-setting as part of a strategic campaign;
Considering alternatives to an in-person event;
Ways to effectively promote your events;
Examining in-house and outside planners/partners;
Producing simple, yet effective events that move the needle;
Reviewing communications tactics that amplify event content and messaging;
Monitoring and evaluating event success;
Brainstorming what has worked and why; and,
Developing checklists for effective events (the details matter).
