**Petula Dvorak, whose twice-weekly local columns in The Washington Post** “have excavated scores of journalistic gems and generated a tremendous following, is shifting her considerable talents to Retropolis, our popular history franchise.” reports The Post.

According to The Post: “In this role, Petula will be responsible for unearthing the history of the Washington region — and beyond — in creative columns, news stories and analytical pieces, plus powerful reporting that holds to account the institutions responsible for chronicling our nation’s past. She will work closely with Lisa Lednicer, who is adding Retropolis to her editing portfolio.

“Lisa and Petula are brimming with ideas for Retropolis 2.0, eager to build on the franchise’s immense popularity with digital- and social-first takes on local (and local is national) history, live events and experiences with readers and sharp, innovative reporting about our nation’s fascinating past.

“A fixture on the local desk, Petula has covered it all since joining The Post in 1999\. She was on the crime desk for a decade, where she found compelling tales that included hanging out with tween car thieves, overnighting in the bushes with IMF protesters, chasing the D.C. sniper, weeks in Modesto tracking down Gary Condit’s flings and interviewing the people fleeing the Capitol and Pentagon on Sept. 11\. When a cop chided her for hanging out by the Ricin decon tent while pregnant, she moved to cover general assignments, federal lands, monuments and memorials in between giving birth to two boys.”

Before The Post, she worked as a crime reporter for the Times-Picayune in New Orleans, where she got married, was stalked by a serial killer and sent to cover the war in the Balkans. She’s also worked in Los Angeles, where she covered the Rodney King riots as an intern, New Jersey, Prague and Wichita.
