**Matt Cuddy, who led CNBC’s Washington bureau for nearly three decades,** retired after a 30-plus-year career with the business news network. His departure marks the end of a long tenure overseeing CNBC’s political and policy coverage from the nation’s capital, where he has been bureau chief since 1997, reports [citybiz](https://www.citybiz.co/article/834643/cnbc-washington-bureau-chief-matt-cuddy-retires-after-more-than-three-decades/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com).

Cuddy joined CNBC in 1993 as a producer and later moved into newsroom leadership roles, continues citybiz, “helping shape the network’s Washington reporting as federal policy and economic decision-making became increasingly central to business news coverage. Over time, his responsibilities expanded to managing editorial direction for the bureau and coordinating coverage of Congress, the White House, regulatory agencies, and major policy developments affecting markets.”

“You could not ask for a harder working, more generous colleague and boss,” CNBC senior Washington correspondent **Eamon Javers** said on social media. “This place just will not be the same without his unbelievable energy and enthusiasm.”

Before joining CNBC, Cuddy worked at Conus Communications from 1990 to 1993 as an editor and producer. Earlier in his career, he served as a video journalist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, giving him experience in both government communications and broadcast production prior to entering business news.

He is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
