[**Virginia Business Magazine**](https://virginiabusiness.com/issue/february-2026/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) **announced its 2026 Virginia Black Business Leaders,** recognizing 29 leaders across the Commonwealth for their “contributions, leadership, and impact”. Included in the list is **Maurisa Turner Potts,** CEO of Alexandria-based [Spotted MP. ](https://maurisapotts.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com)Potts described Spotted MP as an “innovative boutique marketing firm.”

On LinkedIn, she wrote:

Being recognized during Black History Month—and in its 100th anniversary year—is something I don’t take lightly. This recognition highlights my outstanding contributions and leadership in the business community, and I’m allowing myself a moment to truly absorb that.

If you would have told me years ago that I’d be counted among a group of Black business leaders shaping Virginia’s modern economy—driving growth, innovation, and opportunity across industries—I would have paused and hoped it was true. From rebuilding communities to leading Fortune 500 companies, public institutions, and small-but-mighty businesses today, Black leaders have always been central to Virginia’s story. To be part of that continuum is deeply meaningful.

When the editor first emailed me, I genuinely thought it was a mistake. I reread it. Then reread it again. And then came the follow-up: No, it’s you. For your contributions. For your work behind the scenes and out front across so many key entities that help make Virginia what it is. That part stopped me in my tracks.

Virginia is my home state. It raised me, challenged me, and shaped my backbone. To be seen and recognized here feels personal. And while I’m taking a moment to thank me—for the long nights, the risk-taking, the resilience, the grit and the refusal to dim my light—this would not be possible without my clients who trust me as a true partner, collaborator, and steward of their stories and strategies.

This isn’t about applause. This is about legacy, impact, and doing the work with integrity and fire. Grateful. Grounded. And I am certainly not done leaving marks.
