**Newman Granger, a second-year student at the VCU Brandcenter in Richmond,** is the 2014 recipient of a $5,000 annual scholarship from Spurrier Media Group (SMG), a creative media shop with offices in the Richmond and D.C. markets. Since 2008, SMG has presented a total of $35,000 to deserving Brandcenter students who intend to pursue a career in the advertising field.

According to **Emily Hale**, director of development for VCU Brandcenter, the annual $5,000 financial gift from Spurrier Media Group demonstrates a level of scholarship support that is unprecedented for a small business in the advertising and media industry**.** “Spurrier Media Group sets an excellent example for other businesses to follow,” she said. “Thanks to Donna and her company, seven Brandcenter students have received a huge financial boost to help launch their careers.”

A native of Richmond, Granger took a somewhat circuitous path to the Brandcenter. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston in 2009 and then worked as a project manager for Technology Desking, a small British company with an office in NYC. After that position, he found employment on the digital management team at Edelman, one of the world’s largest public relations firms.

**Donna Spurrier,** president of Spurrier Media Group and a Brandcenter guest speaker, noted, “We love helping talented students like Newman get a world-class education at the VCU Brandcenter. As a member of the next generation of advertising and branding professionals, he is destined for success in this fast-paced and challenging industry.”
