**The DC Ad Club, in collaboration with the American Advertising Federation,** will present the prestigious Silver Medal Award to **Paul Duning**, publisher and co-founder of [Capitol Communicator](https://capitolcommunicator.com/). Recipients of the Silver Medal Award are recognized for their contributions to their companies, the general advancement of advertising, and the community and for their creative ability.

Capitol Communicator is a nationally recognized, full-service media company serving the mid-Atlantic region of communications professionals by reporting the news, producing events, providing career tools, and continuing education. Capitol Communicator uses its resources to help support area causes such as Hope for Henry, Samaritan Inn, Food and Friends, and others.

“Capitol Communicator is the only publication in this market dedicated to the communications industry. At the outset, Paul ensured collaboration with and buy-in from the many professional organizations that represent communications professionals,” said **Greg Kihlström**, president of the DC Ad Club. “His dedication to supporting our success continues to this day, with coverage of our news and support for our events.”

Duning has had a diverse career in marketing communications, advertising, media communications, public relations, and production. He was executive vice president of Advanced Laser Graphics, a digital publishing services company, from 1990-1995\. From 1996 to 2002, he led the merger and acquisitions efforts for Multi-Media Holdings Inc., consolidating communications-related companies throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and South. He served as executive vice president for EFX Media, a video and digital services company, from 2003-2007, and chief operating officer for SpeakerBox Communications, a technology-focused PR agency, from 2007-2008.

The idea to create an umbrella organization for communications professionals came during the summer of 2002, when Duning took a post-bubble-imposed sabbatical traveling with his family. He later teamed with **Phil Rabin**, who co-authored a column on advertising and public relations that was among the most respected and longest running in Washington. Their goal was to help advance the DC-area’s growing communications profession. In 2004, Duning and Rabin launched DC Communicator, an e-mail newsletter that ultimately became Capitol Communicator.

Duning is also a co-producer of the Convergence in Communications Conference, Mid-Atlantic Marketing Summits, and Campaigns and Marketing Summit.

The DC Ad Club will present the Silver Medal Award to Duning on Thursday, October 1, at 12:45 p.m., during Advertising Week DC.
