**Rebekah Mena, chief of staff to the Assistant City Administrator for Government Operations in the Executive Office of D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser,** has been named president-elect of the National Association of Government Communicators ([NAGC](https://nagc.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com)) for the upcoming two-year term.

Mena became a member of NAGC in 2020 and joined the board of directors in 2022 as the Digital Engagement Director, where, states a release, she has been instrumental in driving up the association’s digital presence among government communicators nationwide.

“I’m honored to serve as NAGC’s president-elect, and grateful for the opportunity to give back to an organization that has shaped so much of my professional growth,” said Mena.

Mena brings more than a decade of experience as a senior government operations executive, having served in progressively senior roles within D.C.’s government before joining the Executive Office of DC Mayor Muriel Bowser.

According to the release, she is taking on this new leadership role as government communicators nationwide navigate shrinking budgets, growing public trust challenges, and a rapidly evolving media landscape — trends that have placed new urgency on cross-sector collaboration and professional development within the field.

“Government communicators are at the heart of informing, engaging, and serving the public. That’s the work I care about, and it’s why I’m honored to help NAGC keep growing as a home for people doing this job well,” Mena said.

As president-elect, states the release, Mena will focus on improving alliances between government communications and the private sector, strategic planning for the organization, and supporting government communicators through professional development opportunities, networking and sharing best practices.

“Government communicators play a critical role in disseminating timely and accurate information essential to the health, economic, financial, and personal safety of the public,” said **Mick Bullock**, President of NAGC. “With experience in every facet of our industry, Rebekah Mena will help NAGC continue to demonstrate the importance of this profession as governments at all levels work to establish trust with the public,” added Bullock.
