The departure is planned after the election. Three other executives have announced their departure as well. They include COO, [Kim Kingsley](http://www.politico.com/staff/kim-kingsley?ref=capitolcommunicator.com), EVP [Danielle Jones](http://www.politico.com/staff/danielle-jones?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) and chief revenue officer [Roy Schwartz](http://www.politico.com/staff/roy-schwartz?ref=capitolcommunicator.com). VandeHei was a congressional and White House reporter for *The Washington Post* and *Wall Street Journal* before co-founding Politico. *Vanity Fair* named him one of the 100 leading information age thinkers in America for his early work helping create Politico. Along with fellow co-founder [John F. Harris](http://www.politico.com/staff/john-f-harris?ref=capitolcommunicator.com), they were named the 2015 Editors of the Year by the National Press Foundation, which said: “They have brought energy, imagination and an entrepreneurial spirit to reshaping journalism as it must be practiced in the future.” Harris, currently editor-in-chief, will continue in that role while also becoming publisher.
