**Capitol Communicator is running a series featuring an in-depth look at communicators in the mid-Atlantic**. In this “Up Close and Personal” profile, we feature **Tina Caye**. Photography for the series is by [Cade Martin](http://cademartin.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com), wardrobe styling by Pascale Lemaire and Sybil Street for THE Artist Agency; and hair and makeup by Patti D Nelson, Janice Kinigopoulos and Lori Pressman for THE Artist Agency.

**Tina, please provide us with a short bio.**

I believe life is meant to be an adventure.

My life and career path has been nothing short of that. I come from humble beginnings in a tiny town of 750 people in Southern Illinois which I left to attend Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, GA, where I studied Motion Media Design and Performing Arts. I started out freelancing and tending bar while doing odd-job animations and logo designs living in Savannah and then embarked upon my next grand adventure – Hawaii. While there, I worked for a green energy startup and a small advertising agency as Creative Director and fell in love with the sweet spot where strategy and creative merge. I’ve tried it all: From advertising to startups, a healthcare IT firm, government consulting firm, financial services and now, with my co-founder **Brionne Griffin**, an agency called [Clover Collective](http://www.clovercollective.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com).

We’re a member of the [Female Founder Collective](https://www.femalefoundercollective.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) and a 2021 [Hermes Platinum Award Winner](https://enter.hermesawards.com/entry/fire-brothers-website-logo/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com) and have grown into quite the branding, creative and marketing team over the last couple of years and are pumped to see what the future brings. We are launching a podcast this year and planning the launch of some entrepreneur-focused organizational tools in the near future and will continue to jump at the opportunities that come our way.

I get a real rush out of finding people’s hidden passions and talents and empowering them to do their best work. Leadership is something I take seriously and leading a team is my real passion.

**Are you involved in any other organizations?**

I work with Habitat for Humanity and do pro-bono work for small non-profit organizations wherever the opportunity arises. Giving back and volunteerism are important to me and I work hard to make the time where I can.

**What are the things you are most proud of?**

I’m the first person from my family to go to college. Coming from poverty and finding success has been a tough road, but one I’m proud to say I’ve taken. Also, getting letters or cards from someone I’ve worked with, or someone that’s been on my team to tell me how I’ve made an impact on their lives – personally or professionally – is a humbling gift.

**Who are your personal role models?**

These are my go-to role models for success who seem to remain humble: Sir Richard Branson, Arianna Huffington, Simon Sinek, Elizabeth Gilbert and Malcolm Gladwell … and I could go on. And then I always love Betty White for her sense of humor and ability to laugh at herself and realize that life is far too short to take yourself seriously or say “no” too often.

**What professional advice do you have for others?**

Live YOUR adventure. Never let the “shoulds” get in the way of your happiness. Define success for yourself. Just go for it, do what you feel in the moment, don’t listen to the critics – inner or outer – and see where it leads you. Worst case scenario, you end up back where you are right now and you start again. You’ll never look back and wish you had tried fewer new things. Be respectful to EVERYONE along the way.

**What’s on your Spotify and Pandora playlists?**

Now this one is tough. I listen to pretty much everything. Eighties rock and classic country are where my heart lives. Recently though, I’ve been into Hozier, The Lumineers, and Ray LaMontagne has held a special place in my heart for a long while.

**What’s your favorite restaurant?**

Bernie’s on Tybee Island, GA, is one of my all-time favorite casual spots. I could order giant buckets of steamed oysters, sit in the sun and shuck them all day with a cold beer and a few friends. Also, the Hau Tree Lanai in Waikiki, HI, has the BEST macadamia nut French toast on the planet. Another place to sit with a group of my closest people and chat. It’s my kind of place!

**Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?**

I have an amazingly fun, adventurous and supportive husband who is by my side in all that I do. I am beyond grateful for his unending encouragement and confidence. I could not ask for a better partner.

I am all about my friends and family and believe that authenticity is the most important trait someone can possess
