**Republican Ed Gillespie is resuming his career as a D.C.-based public relations consultant** nearly seven months after his loss in Virginia’s 2017 gubernatorial race.

Communications firm [**Sard Verbinnnen and Co**](https://www.sardverb.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com)**.** announced that it had hired Gillespie to help lead its new Washington-based public affairs shop, reported the [**Martinsville Bulletin.**](http://www.martinsvillebulletin.com/?ref=capitolcommunicator.com)

“Ed’s unparalleled experience in business, politics and government will be an important asset to SVC’s clients,” SVC executives **George Sard** and **Paul Verbinnen** said in a news release. “In addition to his expertise in public affairs, he has advised clients on M&A and crisis situations and counseled CEOs and Boards through significant transitions and corporate challenges.”

Gillespie, a former **Republican National Committee** chairman, swore off electoral politics after his 9-point loss last year to Democratic Ralph Northam. That defeat followed a narrower loss for Gillespie in the 2014 U.S. Senate race against Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va, according to the Martinsville Bulletin.
