**The Washington Post laid off 54 employees from Arc XP,** the division of the company that makes and sells publishing software to other media brands, as part of what a Post spokesperson called a “refined product vision,” reports The Post.

This vision, spokesperson **Olivia Petersen** said, includes AI-enhanced content creation, personalized user experience and advanced analytics for Arc XP’s thousands of clients around the world.

In an email to employees, Arc XP President **Matt Monahan** announced the layoffs, saying they were a “hard but necessary step” in the effort to create a “more sustainable business.”

According to The Post: “The layoffs come roughly a year after The Post [laid off](https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2023/08/29/arc-xp-washington-post-layoffs/?itid=lk%5Finline%5Fmanual%5F6&ref=capitolcommunicator.com) seven Arc XP employees as part of a smaller restructuring, and less than a year after The Post reduced its newsroom workforce by 240 people through [a combination of buyouts and layoffs](https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/media/2023/12/07/washington-post-staff-walkout-strike-labor/?itid=lk%5Finline%5Fmanual%5F6&ref=capitolcommunicator.com). The Arc XP employees are not part of the union that represents Post newspaper employees.”
