**The Washington Post is promoting National Editor Matea Gold to managing editor**, a role in which she will oversee several major newsroom departments.

Gold, center in photo, currently leads a staff of more than 150 journalists who break agenda-setting news and deliver investigative and feature coverage of the country and a wide range of topics, including national politics, the federal government, national security, the judiciary, immigration, race, health and science.

According to The Post, she has spearheaded “some of The Post’s most distinctive journalism, including [an investigative series](https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/interactive/2021/jan-6-insurrection-capitol/?itid=lk%5Finline%5Fmanual%5F5&ref=capitolcommunicator.com) about the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol that won a George Polk Award and a Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting and was part of the package that won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Under her leadership, the National department’s coverage won two Pulitzer Prizes, one for National reporting and another for Feature Writing.

“After the completion of several ongoing projects, Gold will take on her new role in September. Until then, Deputy Managing Editor Barbara Vobejda, who has held key reporting and editing positions at The Post since 1984 and is retiring this fall, will serve as interim Managing Editor.”
