**The Wikipedia Chaos Index sits at 70 for April, an increase of 6% from March.** This is most likely due to a significant increase in new pages created – which also has led to an increase in AfC wait times – and the levels of new page submissions, edits, and investigations remained extremely high. In addition, the trends we saw to start 2024 remain intact; deletion nominations and investigations remain incredibly active, and editing activity in general is still higher when compared to Q1 2023.

In March, the Wikimedia Foundation launched its [“Wikipedia Needs More Women”](https://themathergroupllc.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cce5036f6d4489228908d14c2&id=55d16d7c5d&e=53d545074b&ref=capitolcommunicator.com) campaign to address the long-standing issue of gender equity on the platform. The campaign kicked off with a number of fascinating statistics, including:

    - 19% of all biographies on Wikipedia are women
    - 13% of editors identify as women
    - 21% of the content on Wikipedia Commons is related to women

The campaign, which aims to #ChangetheStats, is aimed at improving Wikipedia across the globe, not just on the English language version, by encouraging women to join local community organizations of Wikipedia volunteers, participate in Wikipedia-related events for Women’s History Month – or just make an account and get started, to continue to improve Wikipedia’s knowledge gap through a more equitable representation of women on the platform.

Wikipedia is the 4th most visited site in the world and the other three sites (Google, YouTube and Facebook) all pull from Wikipedia to share knowledge. Right now, this knowledge is disproportionately controlled by male contributors. We hope that this campaign successfully increases the diversity and accuracy of information because it will affect how people understand the world.

*(The Chaos Index is a proprietary metric for measuring turbulence throughout Wikipedia and tracking the community’s current sentiment towards corporate-related pages. The index measures community actions such as editing frequency, content deletion, message board posts, and many other activities that contribute to unstable corporate page environments.)*
