**Yasmine Gahed has been named market president and publisher of the Washington Business Journal.** The appointment, effective immediately, was announced by **Mike Olivieri,** executive vice president of American City Business Journals Inc., the publication’s parent company.

Gahed, states a release, joins the Washington Business Journal after nearly 12 years as vice president of advertising at the South Florida Business Journal, another ACBJ publication. The publication, which covers the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market, has been among the fastest-growing titles in the ACBJ portfolio.

“Yasmine’s thoughtful approach to building teams around a shared mission and her proven track record of developing partnerships that last is why she is ideal for this opportunity with this talented team,” Olivieri said.

Gahed succeeds **Alex Orfinger,** who announced in June that he was stepping down after more than 30 years in Washington, including 24 years leading the Washington Business Journal.

The move marks a return to the Washington area for Gahed. Before joining ACBJ in South Florida, she lived in the region for more than a decade and spent nine years as an advertising sales manager at The Washington Post. She also worked at The Washington Diplomat.

“I’m excited to return to the Washington, D.C., area and step into this new role with a company that has played such an important part in my professional journey,” Gahed said.

“I look forward to leading this exceptional team, deepening relationships with local business leaders, providing meaningful value to the community, and helping position the organization for continued success in a dynamic market.”

Gahed will relocate from Miami to Washington with her daughter. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Ohio State University and an MBA from American University’s Kogod School of Business.

Charlotte, North Carolina-based ACBJ, a unit of New York-based Advance Publications, owns business publications in 45 U.S. cities.
