ABC News lays off 200 people

ABC News is laying off 200 people and has restructured to include merging “20/20” and “Nightline,” and consolidating “Good Morning America” productions, according to the New York Post.

ABC News “gutted” “GMA3” as part of the layoffs.

Catherine McKenzie, the executive producer of “GMA3,” was let go as part of the layoffs, according to the Status newsletter.

The NY Post learned that Almin Karamehmedovic, president of ABC News, circulated a memo to employees about the changes.

“As we’ve often talked about, streamlining our operation to best serve our viewers and continue to position ourselves as a leading news organization has been a goal for some time,” an email obtained by the NY Post read.

“Rethinking the way we work to future-proof our team regrettably includes reductions to our extraordinary staff. … These decisions are incredibly challenging and today will undoubtedly be difficult for our organization.”
