Alex MacCallum is returning to CNN as executive vice president of digital products and services. MacCallum was most recently with The Washington Post, serving as Chief Revenue Officer overseeing subscriptions, partnerships, and advertising.
At CNN, she takes over for Athan Stephanopoulos, who stepped down as CNN’s Chief Digital Officer. Stephanopoulos joined CNN in October 2022 as part of a new infusion of executive talent brought on by former CNN head Chris Licht. He oversaw the digital worldwide business, including editorial, product, technology, business ops, and innovation strategies.
In this role, MacCallum will be focused on overseeing and spearheading CNN’s suite of digital products that serve and engage millions of people globally every day. Based at CNN’s offices in New York, MacCallum will start work on March 4.
On July 11, 2023, The Post announced the appointment of MacCallum as Chief Revenue Officer. This executive role, states Thew Post, drives The Post’s revenue across advertising, partnerships and subscriptions. “She is a strategic visionary with deep experience in identifying, building and modernizing products and streams of business for media organizations, as well as growing subscriptions,” said The Post. “We are grateful that she brings not only a strong sense of leadership and collaboration but also a great understanding of the challenges and opportunities within our industry.”
