David Plunkert, Baltimore-based artist/illustrator and a co-founder of Spur Design, designed the cover for the Oct. 12 issue of The New Yorker.

In a LinkedIn post, Plunkert says the cover is a reaction to President Donald Trump failing to denounce white supremacy during the recent presidential debate. The image is entitled “Red Meat.”

Plunkert’s posters have been collected by the Library of Congress and the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum, and have been exhibited worldwide. His clients include The New York Times, The New Yorker, Serbin Communications, Theatre Project Baltimore, United States Postal Services, Pentagram Austin, Maryland Institute College of Art, They Might Be Giants, and Park MGM.

His illustrations have appeared in publications for Colgate University, Case Western, Stanford University, University of Maryland College Park, St. Mary’s, Santa Clara University and The University of Baltimore.
