The Baltimore Sun’s editorial team is set for another relocation, this time to Little Italy’s Bagby Building at 509 S. Exeter Street. This marks the fourth move for the newsroom in seven years, following their 2023 shift from Baltimore Peninsula to St. Paul Place. The media company’s new owners, David Smith of Sinclair Broadcast Group and Armstrong Williams, are orchestrating this change. While editorial operations will move first, business and advertising departments are slated to follow within the year, vacating their current St. Paul Plaza offices. In 1997, Eisner & Associates, at the time Baltimore’s second-largest advertising firm, announced plans to occupy the entire 89,000-square-foot building along with the headquarters of Caliber Learning Network, a subsidiary of Sylvan Learning Systems.
The Baltimore Banner has unveiled a new online obituary section. Editor-in-Chief Kimi Yoshino announced this expansion as part of the outlet’s ongoing growth, emphasizing the importance of celebrating community members and preserving their legacies. The new feature will include both editorial and paid obituaries, designed to be easily shared on social media platforms. In a departure from traditional models, The Banner will offer a flat-rate pricing structure for paid obituaries, making it more affordable for families to commemorate their loved ones. Chief Revenue Officer Sharon Nevins highlighted that this innovative approach aligns with evolving funeral industry trends, including green funerals and cremations. The Banner’s cost-effective, user-friendly online platform aims to accommodate these changing preferences while serving the community’s needs.
