Baltimore Sun to Move Again

After moving from downtown Baltimore to Port Covington four years ago, the Baltimore Sun is set to move again.

During a recent “Baltimore: State of the Market” real estate forum organized by Bisnow.com, MaryAnne Gilmartin, founder and CEO of MAG Partners, said the newspaper’s owners did not renew the paper’s lease with Sagamore Ventures and development partners MAG Partners and McFarlane Partners.

That means The Sun will leave by late December. The space will be available in the first quarter of 2023 and Gilmartin said that her company has already received interest.

Trif Alatzas, publisher and editor-in-chief of the Baltimore Sun Media Group, confirmed in an email message to Baltimore Fishbowl’s Ed Gunts that the company is searching for a new location.

“We actively are looking for available office space in Baltimore that addresses our needs going forward,” he said. “At this time, we have not made any final decisions.”

Fishbowl reported that “the sprawling building, constructed to house the Sun’s printing presses, contains more than 260,000 square feet of space, according to city tax records.”

The Baltimore Sun Media Group exited its longtime home at 501 N. Calvert St. in 2018 to move to Port Covington. In January 2022 Baltimore Sun Media moved the printing of its newspapers from Baltimore to a printing plant in Wilmington, Delaware, owned by the newspaper there.
