Alyssa, how did you get started?
I’ve been a stylist for the past six years. My first job was in-house for Saks Fifth Avenue, styling women’s and men’s apparel for their e-commerce site.
Who are some of your clients and why do they love working with you?
A lot of my clients are either production companies, ad agencies, photographers or small businesses in the area. They love working with me because I’m organized, work efficiently and have a calm presence on set.
What is your most invaluable tool and what purchase have you made that you wish you didn’t??
My most invaluable tool is definitely Shout Wipes. They will literally get anything out! My snips (small scissors) are a close second. Everyone always comments on them. However, I once bought some off-brand double-sided fashion tape. Big mistake. Topstick is always the way to go!
Who inspired and helped you along the way?
When I first decided to move back to the area and go freelance, Giulietta Pinna was one of the first friends I made. She definitely helped me understand the market, and was always happy to answer my questions or just vent with me. Another person who helped and inspired me is Shala Graham. She gave me great business advice (because she’s the queen of businesses), and always pushed me to do more. I can’t thank the two of them enough for helping me grow my business and being great friends to me as well.
What do you love about the work you do?
I love getting to create the perfect look. It’s sometimes a challenge to find the right pieces, but it is so rewarding when it all comes together. I also love getting to work with everyone on set. So much fun is had, and some great connections are formed along the way.
What was a favorite production you’ve worked on?
A favorite production that I worked on was for the opening of Honeymoon Chicken. I got the opportunity to source some really fun wardrobe pieces, and the final images turned out amazing. I also got to work with such a talented team on that one which is always a plus!
What advice would you give to others who are starting out in your field?
Learn as much as you can, from as many people as you can. Everyone has different methods of doing things and lots of tricks up their sleeves. Also always try to be one step ahead if you can. Try to anticipate what might be needed next or possible problems that my come up.
What are your top five favorite movies?
I really love movies, so it’s always hard for me to play favorites. But if I have to pick five off the top of my head right now they would be I Am Legend, Split, Joker, A Quiet Place and Get Out. I’m a huge fan of the thriller and horror genres.
