Burrelles, founded in 1888, will stop providing monitoring content after June 30, states the company’s website, which adds that Burrelles “is the most trusted and credible partner in the media data services industry.” According to Sword and the Script, Burrelles President Cathy Del Colle said the company aims to keep some services open.

The website states that the firm’s media monitoring service combines human insight with “sophisticated technology to provide you with curated coverage from national and local print, broadcast, social media and online sources to ensure you see all the coverage most relevant to you, your organization, and your public relations goals.”

According to Sword and the Script, Burrelles is famous for its employees in Maine, who for years, would read through newspapers and physically clip (with scissors) and mail the topics, names, brands or companies being monitored to its clients. Burrelles has 97 employees, but would not disclose the number of clients impacted.

Burrelle’s® Press Clipping Bureau formed in New York City after founder Frank Burrelle overheard two businessmen lament the difficulty of keeping up with the news in the papers. Burrelle and his wife transformed their kitchen table to a press clipping bureau, pulling from New York City newspapers the news of interest to his customers. In 2003, Burrelle’s Information Service and Luce Press Clippings merged, forming what was known as BurrellesLuce.

Existing customers may move to Agility PR Solutions, which will honor the contract until renewal time, but customers will have to renegotiate contracts.
