Buzz in Baltimore: Bill Atkinson Joins 212 Communications; News from Sandy Hillman, Devaney, MGH, idfive and More

by | Jun 25, 2015

Former Baltimore Sun reporter and columnist Bill Atkinson, an executive with the Baltimore office of Weber Shandwick for the past 10 years, has left the firm to join 212 Communications in Baltimore, a boutique public relations and marketing firm founded in 2013 by Erica Mechlinski. While at Weber Shandwick, Atkinson led the firm’s environmental public relations practice. Prior to forming 212 Communications, Mechlinski worked at Weber Shandwick beginning in 2006. She started her career in 2003 at Stanton Communications.

Sandy Hillman Communications in Towson was the only Maryland firm to win an award at the recent Public Relations Society of America 2015 Silver Anvil Awards Ceremony in New York. The firm won an Award of Excellence in the “Events and Observances” category for their PR work for Star-Spangled 200.

Devaney & Associates, Inc., is relocating to new headquarters within the historic Trentham Mansion in Owings Mills. After more than 15 years in Towson, the 14-person agency will take residence in its new home on June 26.

Profiles, Inc. has hired Laura Hager as an account executive and Jillian Downing as a public relations assistant. Hager previously worked at Nevins & Associates and Maroon PR; Downing is a recent graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park.

Himmelrich PR adds Old Line Spirits, a new Baltimore-based single-malt whiskey distillery, to its client roster. Old Line will open in early fall, producing Old Line American Single Malt Whiskey.

MGH hired three and promoted one within its account services and social media departments. Alex Conn, traffic coordinator, joins after serving as an intern in the agency’s media department. Megan Kowalski is now social media marketing account executive. Previously, she served as a social media manager and online marketing writer at Borcz+Dixon in Crofton. Intern Morgan Lefkof joins the account services team as a traffic coordinator, and Paul Shiah has been promoted from traffic coordinator to account coordinator in the account services department.

Baltimore-based integrated marketing firm idfive adds senior account executives Jodi Hey and Frank Diller to the team. Hey joins from Ironmark in Annapolis Junction; Diller previously worked for SAGE Dining Services, Inc. Also at idfive, two projects were recently honored with Gold and Silver Circle of Excellence Awards by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health “Year in Review” Annual Report Website received a Gold award, and the University of Baltimore/Towson University MBA advertising campaign received a Silver award.
