Baltimore Updates: Under Armour CEO Invests in SocialToaster; News from MGH, Weitzman, American Office

Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank is among the new investors in fan engagement and social content sharing firm SocialToaster, which recently announced it has raised a $1.9 million bridge funding round. Investors also include London-based David Abrams; SFP Capital, led by former XLHealth EVP Paul Serini and former Medifast EVP Paul Intlekofer; and Vienna, Va-based Blu Venture Investors, which led the company’s Series A round. CEO Brian Razzaque also announced the acquisition of Los Angeles-based marketing firm FLG Psyche. The CEO plans to bring on five new employees, increasing its total to 31. At MGH, Cheryl Peluso has been promoted to senior vice president, account services director and will head the account services department. Peluso joined MGH in 2008 from Arnold Worldwide. MGH also announced it has received a Gold District II ADDY for its work for OLD BAY and was the only Baltimore agency to receive a Gold ADDY this year. The two-page print ad created for OLD BAY’s 75th anniversary moves on to the national American Advertising Awards, formerly the ADDYs.

Baltimore entrepreneur and motivational speaker Bob Paff is promoting a book he wrote on communications: “Communicating to Win in Life, Love and Business.” Available on Amazon, the self-published book draws on Paff’s life experiences – good and bad – and explores ways to “effectively and strategically communicate in all facets of life.”

Annapolis-based Weitzman announces the addition of Jim Schmidt as vice president/senior creative director. He joins from the D.C. office of Proof Integrated Communications where he was associate creative director. Prior to Proof, he held creative roles at Penn Schoen Berland, Discovery Communications and Doner.

Sara Dechowitz joins the Baltimore headquarters of American Office as marketing manager, overseeing branding, public relations, events and corporate marketing. She previously worked at American Pool.
