Craig Timberg, longtime Washington Post editor, exits for Reuters

Reuters appointed Craig Timberg, a veteran Washington journalist and longtime editor at The Washington Post, as its new Washington bureau chief. He joins a growing number of employees leaving The Post and will assume his new role in early September.

According to CityBiz, Timberg, who most recently served as a deputy managing editor at The Post, will oversee Reuters’ coverage of the White House, Congress, national security, politics and domestic policy, as well as foreign affairs reporting. He will also manage the news agency’s photo and video operations in Washington, part of Reuters’ effort to bring together text and visuals in a unified “One Newsroom” structure.

Over a 25-year career at The Post, Timberg reported from Virginia, Washington, and sub-Saharan Africa before turning to technology and national security coverage. His reporting contributed to two Pulitzer Prize-winning projects: the 2013 disclosures of Edward Snowden’s NSA files and the 2021 investigation into disinformation tied to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. He also oversaw The Post’s work on the Pegasus Project, an international probe into government surveillance abuses that won a George Polk Award in 2022.
