D.C.-based Hager Sharp adds Crystal Brown as executive vice president to lead its education, labor, and economy practice.  According to a release, “Brown brings more than 20 years of strategic communications experience to Hager Sharp, having led marketing and communications efforts for mission-driven companies, foundations, nonprofit organizations, and institutions of higher education.”

“Brown comes to Hager Sharp from Howard University, the country’s leading historically black college or university, where she was vice president and chief communications officer. As a member of the president’s executive cabinet, she oversaw the university’s strategic communications, marketing and branding, public relations, executive communications, web and digital strategies, crisis communications, publications and internal communications. While at Howard, she created a contemporary narrative for the institution, gained broad national media exposure, and advanced a new brand to emphasize the university’s academic prowess, impressive research advancements, and commitment to social justice issues,” adds the release.

Previously, she was chief communications officer at the University of Maryland, where she led communications strategy for the state’s flagship public research institution. Earlier in her career, at E-Luminate Group and Widmeyer Communications, Brown led the agency-side teams for a diverse portfolio of clients, including the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, Blackboard, W.K. Kellogg Foundation and NEA Member Benefits.
