D.C. Lawmakers Pause on Awarding Disputed D.C. Lottery Ad Contract, Reports WBJ

Several D.C. lawmakers want to press pause on the award of a nearly $70 million advertising contract from the D.C. Lottery that had previously attracted a protest by its losing bidder, reports Washington Business Journal.

D.C. Councilman Kenyan McDuffie, D-Ward 5, introduced a disapproval resolution last week for the lottery’s proposed contract award to a team of companies led by Taoti Creative, forestalling an agreement that was originally set to go into effect Monday. The council now has until mid-January to either cast a vote on the contract or let it become law without taking action, continues the WBJ report.

“Taoti, a D.C. advertising and web design firm, was originally set to win the five-year deal with the lottery to provide marketing services for its games and products, following a procurement process that started in earnest last November. But a dispute with MDB Communications, the other advertising firm bidding on the work and the contract’s decades-old incumbent, has led to a series of delays,” adds WBJ.

MDB alleged in a protest of the contract award that Taoti was essentially acting as a “strawman” for a subcontractor that is part of its bid: Massachusetts-based Fuseideas.
