The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) has re-engaged Hager Sharp to provide public education and communications support to increase consumer and health professional understanding of priority areas under FDA CFSAN’s purview. Topics will include food safety, preventing foodborne illness, nutrition agricultural biotechnology, food waste and loss, dietary supplements, and food supply safety.
“We’re honored to continue and expand our work with FDA CFSAN to help Americans make informed choices about food and nutrition for themselves and their families,” said Jennifer Wayman, president and CEO.
The multi-year, multi-million dollar single award BPA encompasses the development and execution of national health education campaigns and initiatives, including formative research and strategic planning; social, paid, and earned media; digital marketing; and direct stakeholder engagement.
According to a release, Hager Sharp led the development of numerous award-winning initiatives for FDA CFSAN since the company’s initial engagement began in 2018, including:
- The New Nutrition Facts Label: What’s in it for you?, a public awareness campaign to increase understanding and use of the newly redesigned Nutrition Facts label;
- Feed Your Mind, an educational initiative to increase awareness and understanding of agricultural biotechnology and FDA’s regulation of genetically engineered foods, or GMOs; and
- Supplement Your Knowledge, an education initiative designed to broaden public understanding of dietary supplements.
Hager Sharp also supported communication and public awareness efforts around calorie labeling on menus and is currently conducting consumer research to develop a “healthy” symbol to help consumers easily identify packaged foods that will meet the updated FDA definition of “healthy.”
