Muck Rack releases data-driven “Guidebook to Pitching” guide

Muck Rack released its “Guidebook to Pitching”, a guide that draws from its State of Journalism survey of 1,000+ journalists and, states Muck Rack, “features data-driven insights into how different groups of vertical-specific journalists work and how to best pitch them.”

To make the guidebook, Muck Rack states it delved deeper into “the State of Journalism data which collected responses from more than 1,000 journalists and looking at it from new angles. We also interviewed more than a dozen journalists from seven unique groups to give context and to hear about their first-hand experiences.”

A few key insights:

  • Tech journalists are more likely to use LinkedIn
  • Healthcare journalists want to be pitched from a health angle (not a business angle)
  • Business journalists are more likely to receive irrelevant pitches
  • Freelance journalists are less likely to think CEOs are credible sources
  • Broadcast journalists are looking for interviews with everyday people
  • Local journalists are more likely to use Facebook
