idfive announces diversity and equity growth strategy; Kapowza’s Sean Sutherland among seven new hires

With new certifications and new hires in place, Baltimore-based integrated marketing agency idfive has announced plans to pursue large-scale government and non-profit engagements as part of its growth strategy.

idfive now holds the state of Maryland’s Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification, the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program, the Small Business Enterprise (SBE) certification and Baltimore City’s Minority Business Enterprise certification.

It is part of a larger strategy to pursue the growth via DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) under the leadership of idfive Executive Vice President of Strategy and Founder, Andrés Zapata.

“I’ve wanted this for idfive from day one and it took us 17 years and a change of ownership to make it happen,” said Zapata, majority owner of the agency. “Our strategic vision is coming together and I can’t overstate how important these certifications are to reach our ten-year strategic goals.”

idfive has experienced tempered growth since 2021 after securing several key new engagements, including Baltimore Collegetown Network, Jhpiego, University of Washington, University of Iowa, Colgate University, and WYPR among other account wins.

Since December 2022, idfive has added seven members to strengthen its capabilities in business development, web development, project management, strategy, copywriting, support services, and human resources. The company still needs to fill several roles related to user experience, client services, and web development.

Sean Sutherland

One of the recent hires is Sean Sutherland, well-known in Baltimore as Kapowza’s Chief Marketing Officer for seven years. Sutherland joined as Director of Marketing in January.

“Sean’s a great addition to our growing team. He brings with him equal parts energy and experience,” Zapata said. “We’re excited to be on this new leg of the idfive journey with him.”

The move drew praise from Kapowza Founder and Chief Creative Officer Dan Schepleng: “Sean and I both came up together and I learned a ton from him. He has no bigger fan than me and I’m so excited to see what he does at idfive.”

Schepleng, based in Hollywood, is refocusing Kapowza around creative strategy and production and will announce details and reveal a new website in the spring. In early 2022, the Emmy-award-winning creative agency opened an office in Los Angeles to tap into new opportunities with clients in the creative and film industry.
