Scott Widmeyer, a Finn Partners managing partner, is stepping into a new role as Chief Strategy Officer/Washington, DC, focused on the growth of the firm in this market. According to Peter Finn, founding managing partner, “Washington, DC continues to be a dynamic growth area for PR and marketing and it’s been a high priority for Finn to continue expanding our DC operations, the second largest after our New York headquarters. We believe in the vibrancy and future of the Washington, DC area and our vision is to build upon our existing practice areas as well as add capabilities in new sectors.” Widmeyer had been the CEO of DC-based Widmeyer Communications before he sold his firm to Finn Partners in 2013, and became a member of the Founding Managing Partners group at Finn.
Joe Lockhart, the former White House press secretary who has been the NFL’s chief communications officer and primary spokesman for the past two years, is leaving the league, reports The Washington Post, which added that “Lockhart told members of his staff he is stepping aside after the Super Bowl to spend more time with his family, do political commentary and perhaps teach.
“The league office informed NFL teams Thursday of the pending change.
“It’s not immediately clear what the NFL will do to replace him. He had served as the NFL’s executive vice president of communications and public affairs.”
Previously, Lockhart was Glover Park Group managing director and founder of the D.C.-based firm.
Glover Park Group announced that Sarah Culvahouse Mills has joined as a vice president. Mills will work in the Strategic Communications division, providing strategic media counsel for the firm’s clients. Mills comes to GPG from The Heritage Foundation, where she was most recently director of communications and media relations during her six-year tenure and, previously, Mills worked at the White House during the Bush Administration where she served as an assistant press secretary in the Office of First Lady Laura Bush. Mills has also held communications positions at PJ Media and Powell Tate | Weber Shandwick and she worked at the Republican National Committee earlier in her career.
