January Third, a D.C.-based ad agency, has become This January. According to a release from the agency, the name change comes “in response to the January 6th insurrection, which pretty much killed the idea of naming a company after a date in early January.”
“Obviously, we never could have predicted that insane day when we named the company,” said Zach Goodwin, partner at This January. “We’re a creative agency, not a political one. We want our name to reflect our values and the idea of a fresh start — and any association with the 6th does the exact opposite.”
“We don’t work on politics or political campaigns,” said Maggie Winters, partner. “But politics still found us. And we didn’t want our name to be a constant reminder of that day.”
The new name, continues the release, “still captures that feeling of a fresh start — but moves away from associations with any specific date.
“This January is a full-service creative agency that specializes in branding, advertising, and digital marketing. In their three short years, they’ve led advertising for DC tourism, The International Spy Museum, America’s wireless companies, and most recently won the Lufthansa USA social account.”
“We’re excited about the future of This January,” said Winters. “We have incredible client partners and an amazing team from all over the world. We’re excited to share our new name, and we’re sure that our most interesting days are still ahead.”
