Kathy Baird, WaPo’s chief communications officer, recognized as a fellow for 2025 Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program

Kathy Baird, chief communications officer for The Washington Post, has been recognized as a fellow for 2025 Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program. The fellowship was created to shape the future of journalism, specifically focusing on building leaders who will thrive while facing and navigating the media industry’s constant disruption.
Corey Ford, director of the Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program, said, in part, when announcing the 2025 cohort, “I can’t wait to see how the intentional serendipity of bringing together these innovators will impact these leaders, their organizations, and the journalism industry as a whole.”
According to The Post, Baird, a marketing and communications strategy veteran with 25 years of experience, leads teams at The Washington Post across multiple disciplines, including corporate communications, talent management, community impact and press freedom initiatives. She will continue to serve as both a trusted executive at The Washington Post while simultaneously participating in this prestigious five-month low-residency program. Baird and fellows will bring to the program an individual project of strategic importance to their news organization and of critical importance to their own role.
Baird is Sicangu Lakota and Oneida, and an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. She is a recipient of the ColorComm Circle Award, recognizing women of color changing the face of the communications industry. Outside of her work at The Post, Baird serves on the Advisory Board of IllumiNative, a nonprofit working for accurate and authentic portrayal of Native people. She is also on the boards of the American Indian College Fund, a global environmental nonprofit.
