Jason Fraley, WTOP’s entertainment reporter, exits after 16 years, reports Barrett Media.
“It pains me to report that I am sadly included in another round of layoffs at WTOP,” Fraley wrote. “Times are tough in radio but I’m truly grateful for the past 16 years.”
Fraley added in a letter “I know these are truly tough times in the radio business, but it still stings,” noting that his position was the first job he took out of college. “It’s been a helluva 16-year run, but now I have to figure out what comes next … Either way, I remain grateful for the many amazing opportunities that this job has afforded me and I’m proud to hang my hat on one of the biggest vaults of celebrity interviews ever compiled so that future generations can listen and learn from the greatest creatives of our time.”
DCRTV.com adds that five other staffers were also cut, including VP/Finance Sam Millstone and Senior Director Of Technology George Molnar. The report also notes that the station is eliminating its vacant AM traffic producer role and some reporters will have hours reduced.
Of note, the layoffs come after WTOP was the top-billing radio station in the U.S. in 2023 with revenue of $66.3 million. (WTOP been the top-billing station for 13 of the last 14 years.)
