Longtime WJLA news anchor Dave Lucas to retire after nearly 48 years in journalism

Dave Lucas, longtime WJLA news anchor, will retire at the end of November after nearly five decades in broadcast journalism, reports WJLA.
Lucas has been with WJLA since NewsChannel 8 was established roughly 34 years ago and, states WJLA, is considered among the region’s most highly regarded broadcast journalists. His last day on air is Nov. 22.
His career started in Charleston, SC, as a sports and health reporter. From there, he was a nationally syndicated medical reporter for Medstar Television and host of Discovery Channel’s daily Your Health! program.
In 2021, Lucas was inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Capital Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
He’s been honored with numerous journalism honors including three regional Emmy awards and a national Edward R. Morrow award for political reporting. Lucas also points with pride to back-to-back National Cable Ace awards for Healthline as the nation’s best local public affairs program, states WJLA.
Lucas and his wife, Lisa, plan to move to Richmond, VA, where they will take on their next adventure closer to their children and grandchildren.
