With 2021 declared the year of the great resignation, a number of Maryland communicators have made the leap to new positions:
Devaney & Associates reports that with projects picking up in the new year, its PR department added another member to its team, Brittney Brookins, left, joining as PR & social media associate. The agency reports, “from writing press releases to researching national media outlets to keeping up with the latest Twitter trends, Brittney’s experience as Social Media Coordinator at Coppin State University makes her the perfect addition to D&A.”
In Baltimore, Yvonne Wenger, the former Sun City Hall reporter has left her position as City Council President Nick Mosby‘s communications director. She has accepted a position as director of community affairs with the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
At the zoo, Michael Evitts is now Senior Director of Communications, Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. He was previously Senior VP of Communications and Brand Management, Downtown Partnership of Baltimore for 18 years.
Following an extensive national search, Towson University President Kim Schatzel has appointed TU alum Sean Welsh, right, as the University’s Vice President for University Marketing & Communications. Welsh will serve as the university’s chief marketing and communications officer, a member of the president’s cabinet and an officer of the university. Prior to TU, Welsh had an extensive career in journalism, culminating with nearly five years as digital and breaking news editor at The Baltimore Sun, where he led a fast-paced newsroom that was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize.
Baltimore’s Unconquered, “a purpose-driven creative agency that is focused on building brand equity through storytelling,” announced the addition of Stephen Moon as head of production, according to co-founder Brian Schneider. Residing in Miami, Moon brings over a decade of production experience to Unconquered. Prior to joining the firm, he was a freelance creative content developer working with brands including Amazon, BBC, Sky Sports, Gravity Media, DAZN, and Golf TV.
Crofton-based integrated marketing agency The Cyphers Agency added two members to its digital marketing and public relations teams. Scott Bovarnick has been hired as public relations account executive and Jill Burke has joined as digital marketing director.
Further down I-97, Alexandra Hughes will be in a new position when the 2022 General Assembly starts in Annapolis. A fixture in the House Speaker’s office for 15 years, Hughes has left to start her own Annapolis public relations firm.
“Alex has been an invaluable part of the House of Delegates for fifteen years – during some of the most challenging times in the history of the institution,” Maryland House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones (D-Baltimore County) said in a statement. “Every member respects and appreciates her depth of knowledge on both policy and process, her investment in their success, and her overwhelming commitment to the success of the House and the legislature. While this is a loss for the House, she will continue to make an important impact on our State.”
