Longtime radio news anchor announces exit plan from WTOP

Michelle Basch, longtime D.C. radio news anchor and reporter, is planning to step away from her day-to-day role as morning co-anchor on all-news WTOP at the end of the year. She will continue to serve as a reporter for the station until next spring, when she and her husband will relocate to Pennsylvania, reports Inside Radio.
“We are sad to see her go but completely understand her decision,” Director of News & Programming Julia Ziegler tells Inside Radio. “Michelle will be with us through the end of the year in the anchor role, which gives us some time to hire her replacement.”
According to Inside Radio, Basch began her radio career at WEOL and WNWV in Elyria, OH. She moved on to WWWE Cleveland, now WTAM, before joining WMAL in Washington, DC, in 1999. The next year, she left for a job with Metro Networks and KABC in Los Angeles, but eventually returned to WMAL. Basch joined WTOP in 2006 as a reporter after working at crosstown news/talk WMAL. Before her move to mornings in January 2023, she co-anchored evenings with the late Dimitri Sotis.
