USDA “Mother & Child” Campaign Promoted National WIC Breastfeeding Week

by | Aug 8, 2018

D.C.-based Hager Sharp produced a campaign to honor National WIC Breastfeeding Week, which is this week.  Photography for the campaign, “Mother and Child”, was by Cade Martin, the award-winning photographer who photographs Capitol Communicator’s “Up Close and Personal” profiles.  Cade told Capitol Communicator, “Hager Sharp is an agency that prides itself on creating work that fosters meaningful change in the world. They’ve been at it for nearly 40-years now, so it was a privilege to be asked to partner with them on a campaign for USDA WIC Breastfeeding Week that encourages low-income moms to breastfeed.” (WIC is Women, Infants and Children.)

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue proclaimed Aug. 1-7 as National WIC Breastfeeding Week. Each year, National WIC Breastfeeding Week is held in conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week during the first week of August to promote and support breastfeeding as the best source of nutrition for a baby’s first year of life.

Cade added, “I love what has come through in these images — a testament to honoring the bond between mothers and their children, and the obvious love and pride parents have for their children. They are such intimate images and yet represent something so natural and universal.

“Special thanks to USDA Nutritionists Valery Soto and Cheryl Funanich.”

The Hager Sharp team working on the campaign was:

Aaron Murphy

Natalya Malteva

Jerold Williams
