Charles F. Robinson III, an award-winning journalist who served as a reporter and host for State Circle on Maryland Public Television’s News & Public Affairs team, died on December 15.

MPT shared the following on Facebook:

We’re sad to report the news that our colleague and friend Charles Robinson died suddenly on Monday, December 15.

Charles served as a political reporter for State Circle starting in 2001 and was also a correspondent for Your Money & Business during the weekly series’ 13-year run. In 2016, Charles was honored with a star on MPT’s Walk of Fame for his on-air contributions to our network.

“Charles has been an integral part of MPT’s News & Public Affairs team for more than 24 years, bringing his knowledge and experience to the coverage of important Maryland stories. Our viewers have benefited greatly from Charles’s hard work and reporter’s acumen over these many years. I will miss him as a colleague and a friend and sincerely appreciate all the great work he contributed to our network,” said CEO Steven Schupak.

Born in Richmond, Robinson grew up in Baltimore and began his journalism career by delivering the Baltimore Afro-American newspaper while still in junior high school.

During Robinson’s career, he has worked as a reporter at WWBT-TV, Richmond; at WPEC-TV, West Palm Beach, Florida; and at WCPO-TV, Cincinnati, Ohio. He served as national correspondent for Black Entertainment Television.

The cause of death has not been released.
