Norman Goldberg,  co-founder of Goldberg/Marchesano, a well-known D.C. advertising agency has died. According to his obituary, in 1967 Goldberg embarked on a career in advertising, ultimately forming Goldberg/Marchesano, a legendary Washington, D.C.-based agency.Throughout its history, adds his obituary, Goldberg/Marchesano created numerous memorable and award-winning campaigns for clients such as IKEA and National Geographic.

In 2002, the agency was acquired by Williams Whittle Associates, where Goldberg continued as Vice-Chairman until his retirement.

When Goldberg/Marchesano was acquired by Williams Whittle, the Washington Business Journal wrote: “Williams Whittle’s acquisition of Goldberg Marchesano changes the local advertising landscape and could turn out to be one of the biggest local ad stories (the) year.

“The purchase boosts Williams Whittle’s media capabilities, particularly in broadcast planning and buying. Goldberg Marchesano also brings significant clients, such as National Geographic Magazine and, regionally, Papa John’s and Chili’s Grill & Bar.”

“The area also loses a big personality … (and) there’s no denying the role the agency has played in the history of D.C.-area advertising.”

Upon retirement, Norman and Carol Marchesano, his wife of 37 years, relocated to Des Moines, IA. For more than 15 years, states his obituary, he was part of the Des Moines community, teaching English as a second language to elementary students, hosting an annual Christmas dinner for underprivileged children, and continuing his lifelong support of animal charities. “Known for his quick wit, tremendous creativity, and mischievous sense of humor,  Norman’s (mis)adventures were often detailed in their annual Christmas letter, something that helped keep him connected to his east coast family.”

He was predeceased by his wife Carol Marchesano,
