NOTUS will not become a Star

NOTUS, a Washington-area news outlet, has settled a trademark infringement lawsuit with the Washington Star and will not change its name to the Star as it had planned. Instead, as a term of the deal, the outlet will pick a new name, reports The Washington Post.

The Washington Star sued NOTUS, states The Post, “after it announced it would change its name to the Star and, earlier this month, a federal judge blocked NOTUS from assuming its new moniker, finding it was too similar to that of the Washington Star.”

“Both parties have amicably resolved the matter,” a NOTUS spokesperson wrote in a statement “We continue to work toward a new name.” The Washington Star voluntarily dismissed its lawsuit.

The terms of the settlement were not immediately clear beyond the decision for NOTUS to abandon its pursuit of renaming itself the Star.
