Nyree Wright, principal, NW Consulting, LLC, and previously Executive Vice President at Edelman, appointed to Virginia’s Council on Women Advisory Board

Nyree Wright, principal, NW Consulting, LLC, and previously Executive Vice President, Crisis & Risk Communications at Edelman, has been appointed to Virginia’s Council on Women Advisory Board. The purpose of the Council is to “advise the governor on matters pertaining to women and ways to improve their educational, professional, cultural, and governmental status within the Commonwealth.”
Online, Wright wrote the following:
I am elated and humbled to share that I was recently sworn in as a gubernatorial appointee of Governor Abigail Spanberger to Virginia’s Council on Women Advisory Board, where I will serve a four-year term.
The Commonwealth of Virginia Council on Women exists to advise the Governor on policies that shape the educational, professional, cultural and governmental status of women across the Commonwealth serving as a critical liaison between state agencies and the people they serve. It’s the kind of work that translates lived experience into policy, and policy into real change.
I believe this type of service is needed and required in this moment. The issues facing women today: economic opportunity, access, representation, safety, et al. demand voices at the table who understand both the policy landscape and the communities most affected by it. My work in crisis communications has taught me how quickly narratives can shape outcomes, and how essential it is that the people closest to an issue have a seat in the room where decisions are made. I’m ready to take on that responsibility.
I am grateful to Governor Spanberger, for this appointment; to Secretary of the Commonwealth Candi Mundon King, for her leadership; and, to Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey, for her unwavering support. Equally, I am thankful to the mentors, colleagues, and community who have shaped the path that led here.
I look forward to serving the residents of Virginia alongside fellow Council members, and to bringing the same rigor, care and accountability to this role that has guided my career.
