An agreement has been reached for The Ogden Newspapers Inc., a family‐owned newspaper group with 46 daily and numerous weekly newspapers published in 16 states, to purchase certain publishing assets of The Virginia News Group LLC, including the Loudoun Times-Mirror and Loudouner magazine, reports The Frederick News-Post, which added that the acquisition included “the titles to the Loudoun Times-Mirror, the Loudouner magazine and associated websites. The Times-Mirror will continue to serve more than 50,000 readers each week, both in print and online. It will also continue to employ a local staff in Leesburg, Virginia, including Peter Arundel, the publisher and former owner.
““We’re thrilled to join a company that understands the lasting impact of newspapers today. The Times-Mirror is in good hands, and we now have the resources to build the future of print and digital media right here in Loudoun,” Peter Arundel said.
““Ogden is very committed to local media in the region,” Arundel said. “Their recent purchases of neighboring legacy newspapers — The Winchester Star and Frederick News-Post — [make] the Times-Mirror a strategic fit for advertisers seeking to expand their reach.”
“Ogden is heavily invested in the region. The company also owns The Journal in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the Northern Virginia Daily of Strasburg, and the recently acquired former Byrd newspapers in Winchester, Harrisonburg, Front Royal, Woodstock and Luray. The Loudoun Times-Mirror will be printed at Ogden’s state-of-the-art printing plant in Frederick, Maryland, beginning July 12.
“The Wheeling, West Virginia‐based company also publishes newspapers in Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Utah.”
