USA Today Co accelerates digital transformation

USA Today Co, is continuing to accelerate its digital transformation, with online revenue approaching half of its overall business, states a post on Citybiz.
The company, formerly known as Gannett, reported first-quarter revenue of $548.5 million, down 4% year over year. However, same-store revenue declined just 1.8%—a 590-basis-point improvement compared to the prior-year period—signaling stabilizing performance.
Digital operations were a bright spot, states the post. Total digital revenue reached $261.9 million, representing 47.8% of total revenue, up from $250 million a year ago and reflecting 5.2% same-store growth.
Chairman and CEO Mike Reed attributed the gains to growth in digital-only subscriptions and other digital revenue streams, noting these segments are driving both improved digital performance and broader revenue trends.
Digital advertising generated $80.9 million during the quarter, while digital-only subscriptions contributed $45.9 million, returning to year-over-year growth. The company also reported strong audience engagement, with average monthly unique visitors reaching 180 million in Q1, states the post.
