People Making News: Hastie Afkhami Joins Subject Matter, Matt Herrick Joins Rockefeller Foundation and Tim Flaherty Wins Award

by | Jan 5, 2018

Subject Matter announced an expansion of its senior leadership with Hastie Afkhami joining the firm as Senior Vice President-Digital. According to a release, Afkhami, shown above, joins D.C.-based Subject Matter after two years as Digital Lead for Podesta Group, serving many of that firm’s largest clients, as well as significantly expanding its Digital practice area. At Podesta Group, she was able to offer the  firm’s government relations clients a consumer-campaign approach to digital, breaking through traditional boundaries and offering them customized solutions.  Originally a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, and then Emerson Human Capital Consulting, Afkhami was recruited to the global communications firm Ogilvy, rising over her four and a half years there to become Senior Vice President, Global Strategy Team, at Social@Ogilvy.

Matt Herrick joined the Rockefeller Foundation in New York as managing director of communications. In his 16-year career, he has served as communications director for the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Oxfam America. Most recently, he worked as senior vice president with Story Partners public affairs in Washington, D.C., where he founded and managed the agency’s food practice.

Tim Flaherty, a long-time southern Marylander, freelance video producer, marketing consultant, and photographer, was awarded the 2017 TIVA-DC Distinguished Service Award at the TIVA Peer Awards Annual Gala in December at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C., reports Southern Maryland Online.  The report added that the Distinguished Service Award is given annually to a TIVA-DC (Television, Internet and Video Association of Washington, DC) member in recognition of outstanding service to not only the organization, but to the DC region content creation community at-large. Flaherty was TIVA President in 2009 and 2010, and continues to be active in the group.
