Pete Medhurst, D.C. sports radio reporter and host, dies of brain cancer

Veteran D.C. sports radio reporter and host Pete Medhurst died on Jan. 20 after a short battle with brain cancer, reports Inside Radio. He was 55.
Medhurst was a long-time employee of Audacy sports “106.7 The Fan” WJFK-FM, starting as an update anchor soon shortly after the station’s launch. According to Inside Radio, he served in a variety of roles at the station, “including morning anchor, fill-in host, and Nationals post-game host – eventually achieving a lifelong dream a few years ago when he became the primary fill-in play-by-play voice for Nationals radio broadcasts.
“Medhurst moved into a full-time host role when Audacy acquired “The Team 980” WTEM in 2021, serving as co-host of the “Russell & Medhurst” afternoon show with Chris Russell into 2023.”
In addition to calling Nationals games, Medhurst was also the play-by-play announcer for Navy football and basketball.
