PRSA-NCC President Relocating, President-Elect to Assume Position

by | Jun 29, 2017

Laura Bynum, president of the Public Relations Society of America’s National Capital Chapter (PRSA-NCC) and a PRSA-NCC Diamond Award honoree, is relocating to Orlando, Fla., where she will work remotely for the American Public Works Association and volunteer with Orlando chapter PRSA’s Orlando Regional Chapter.

“It has been an honor to serve as president of the nation’s largest PRSA chapter during the past six months,” said Bynum, pictured above. “The PRSA-NCC board is working extremely hard implementing several new processes, including electronic submission of Thoth Award entries and new non-dues revenue options. These strategic decisions will keep the chapter operating smoothly and continue its mission to provide education, accreditation and networking opportunities for PR professionals in the D.C. area. I commend the board for its outstanding work during the past six months, and look forward to hear how these efforts progress for the balance of the year.”

Sabrina Kidwai, APR, CAE, president-elect of PRSA-NCC and a senior public relations manager at ASAE, takes over as president effective immediately.

“On behalf of PRSA-NCC as well as public relations practitioners across the region, I congratulate Laura for the terrific job she has done,” said Kidwai. “Our board owes her a debt of gratitude for her tireless efforts to strengthen the chapter and provide resources and opportunities for PRSA-NCC members to excel on the job and climb their career ladders. I am excited to start the second half of the year in my new role as we continue to create innovative solutions to grow the PR industry.”

During her term as president, Kidwai will focus on membership, board leadership development, and overall programming and events for the chapter.

“Every public relations professional in the national capital region will always have a friend in Laura Bynum,” said Sultana Ali, APR, PRSA-NCC immediate past president, and a communications officer at The Pew Charitable Trusts. “A consummate professional in every sense, she will be missed. We wish her nothing but the best in her new endeavor in Florida, my home state. Meanwhile, I stand ready to support Sabrina as she advocates for new pathways for PR professionals throughout our chapter.”
