Pum Lefebure, co-founder and chief creative officer of Design Army in Washington, DC, has been named President of the Design Jury at Cannes Lions 2021 in Cannes, France.

Cannes Lions will take place, in person, the third week of June. As a result of the postponement of the 2020 awards, the juries this year will be judging and awarding Lions for 2020 and 2021.

“Cannes Lions: The International Festival of Creativity – has been championing creative excellence since 1954 with the goal of providing a global destination and the definitive benchmark for creativity that drives progress,” states its website. Entries will need to demonstrate how design has been used to define a brand or communicate its key messages; work in which a unique visual identity leads to consumer recognition or understanding.

Lefebure told Capitol Communicator: “I’m so honored and humbled to be appointed President of the Design Jury at Cannes. After an unprecedented year, I’m looking forward to seeing inspiring, transformative work in the incredible time we now live in. Design truly has the power to change the world.”  The Design Lions category includes: Brand-Building, Communication Design, Digital & Interactive Design, Brand Environment & Experience Design, Packaging, and Products

“For more than 65 years Cannes Lions has set the benchmark for great creative work,” said Lions Managing Director Simon Cook, “and after the disappointment of postponing the 2020 Lions awards, we look forward to presenting the work to the Juries in June. We’ve been delighted by the diverse spread of work that has emerged in our regional awards – Eurobest, Dubai Lynx and Spikes Asia – and we look forward to being inspired by the work that will set the global standard across two years at Cannes Lions.”

According to the event’s website, Lefebure,  an award-winning creative director, has been leading “global brand campaigns for clients including the Hong Kong Ballet, the Academy Awards, PepsiCo, Karl Lagerfeld, Adobe, and The Ritz-Carlton. The Thailand native was named one of Adweek’s Creative100, Graphic Design USA’s Top 50 People to Watch, and a Rising Star by the Washington Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business. Pum has also been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, The New York Times, and Fast Company.”
