Sinclair Campaign Raises About $900,000 for Salvation Army

Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., based in Hunt Valley, MD, announced that its Sinclair Cares and Salvation Army: ‘Your Neighbor Needs You’ campaign benefiting the Salvation Army raised almost $900,000 nationally for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, including a $100,000 donation by Sinclair.
The initiative, which launched on March 31, encouraged viewers locally and across the nation to help support fellow Americans impacted by the global pandemic. All Sinclair-owned outlets, including local television stations WBFF-TV and WJLA-TV, and Sinclair owned Tennis Channel, its regional sports networks, STIRR, Comet, and more participated in on-air, digital, and social media efforts to support the campaign.
In addition, Sinclair Broadcast Group’s TV stations aired a special 30-minute program: Sinclair Cares: Your Neighbor Needs You. In addition to the Salvation Army, Sinclair states that the special “showcased the various organizations and people across the country who are showing us what it means to stand together during this pandemic, even as we remain physically apart. The special shared remarkable stories of every day citizens selflessly serving their communities, as well as the courage of our nurses and doctors, the bravery of our frontline responders, and the generosity of those going out of their way to try to bring a smile to a neighbor’s face during these difficult times.”
“We are proud and honored to have worked with the Salvation Army over the past months to utilize our various platforms to help share their message, shine a light on the amazing work they do every day, and help support those in our communities who have had their lives forever changed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Chris Ripley, President and CEO of Sinclair Broadcast Group. “We would also like to thank all of our viewers across Maryland and the country who supported the campaign for their amazing generosity and support during these difficult times.”
Sinclair states that since 2017 it has worked with the Salvation Army to aid in multiple relief efforts, including Hurricanes Harvey, Florence, and Michael, as well as the Midwest Bomb Cyclone, Carr Fire, and the Middle Tennessee tornadoes this past March. Collectively, these efforts have raised more than $2 million.
